Ghafir (Arabic: غافر, ghāfir; signifying: "The All-Sympathetic", alluding to God), otherwise called Al-Muʼmin (Arabic: المؤمن, 'al-mu'min; meaning: The Adherent), is the 40th section (sūrah) of the Qur'an, with 85 refrains (āyāt). It takes its name from refrain 28, which makes reference to a recognized devotee from among the family of the Pharaoh who upheld Moses, alluding to him as a "trusting man," thus al-Mu'min; The Devotee. Nonetheless, this surah is most frequently called al-Ghafir (the All-Lenient) as a result of the Heavenly Name referenced in stanza 3.
